A Mother’s Love”

In my speech I state that, “In childhood everyone starts out happy, but when you become in adult sometimes you lose sight of that happiness. My mother is one of those people. I wrote my speech about my mother and how I leaned to understand her way of expecting love to me. I wrote about what I learned from looking in her past and how I realized how hard she works for our family in spite of her illness.

Aiming for an Accurate Translation”

After a terrible translating incident involving Google Translate in class, I try to think of ways translation software can be more accurate. In order to do so, Idecided to research why translation software is so terrible. I researched different software and causes for the unreadable translations. I provide my research and show possible causes for these mistakes. I then present my thoughts, formed after careful consideration, as to how to improve the software: they all need to be a little human to create perfect contextual translations.

The Importance of Bonds”

My speech is about bonds, and how they are necessary for us. Everyone is going through some kind of challenge on a regular basis, and by overcoming those challenges, we are able to learn from them, and grow as a person. Bonds are imperative when we are facing such difficulties. It is important to remember that no matter where we are, or what situation we are up against, people will always be there for us. We should hold such bonds and experiences in our hearts and continue climbing the mountain known as life.

Sound of Hope”

When I was young, I used to go to my uncle’s church in Korea on every Christmas. There, I met a girl named Yuna. We were close friends despite our hard time communicating due to her deafness. However, on one Christmas Eve, she was hit by a truck resulting in her unfortunate death. Ever since the accident, her disability has caused me view the disabled society in a new light. I started to learn sign language two years ago and volunteer at a deafness organization. I aspire to continue my road to empathy throughout my life in memory of Yuna.

Japanese Blindfolded”

My speech is about my trip to Japan. I studied abroad for 2 months. In Japan, I lived with a host family and went to high school as a 2nd year student. I also participated in club activities after school, and met some very scary people on a train. In the end, even though I chose Japanese as a language to learn coincidentally,I don’t regret it at all.

Speed Eating Contest and Inspiration”

My speech is about Takeru Kobayashi, a Japanese competitive eater, who is my hero and inspiration. I describe his perseverance and how he never gives up, even when facing overwhelming odds. I discuss how he manages to maintain a healthy lifestyle even though he consumes massive quantities of food. These qualities of perseverance and good health are things I aspire to and make Kobayashi my role model.

The Power Which Is Born Through Failure”

All people experience failure, and I, too, am not an exception. As a debater,I became complacent when I won awards at tournaments and began to forget the need to work hard. Thus, I was shocked when I confidently walked into a contest and returned empty-handedly. My role model, my mother, experienced similar sentiments when she went to Russia as the best student in her class. Her experiences there taught her to learn from her mistakes and improve, which was why she became a successful interpreter. I, too, followed her example and soon received power which is born through my failure."

It Really Saved Me”

Music has been a big part of my life. Whether I listened to my favorite songs or played pieces on the piano, I always found myself engrossed in music. However, some periods of my life were not nearly as enjoyable. I have had many disheartening and negative experiences, and I was constantly frustrated because I couldn’t really do anything. At these points in life, I had almost lost interest in most things. However, music stuck with me to provide comfort. I’ve listened to many types of music, but mainly one genre of music has saved me. That was Japanese music.

Music is Life”

Music is what fuels me with energy and motivation. It is the reason why I live and is my future. When in dark times, it was music that healed me and was always there for me. Knowing that I love it, I want to write and compose my own songs in the future. I want to create and sing songs that will help others and heal them like how music has done for me. This happiness is not only for myself, and so I wish to be able to share it with the world. I hope that in the future, I can truly impact others through the songs I write and inspire them like other singers do for me.

The Best Event That Come Once in Four Years”

Last year, Tokyo made world headlines when it was chosen as the host city of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. As a Japanese language learner and fan of the Olympics, I was so happy for Tokyo. The Olympic Games are an exciting, international event that only comes once in four years. However, I’ve noticed in recent years that the Games aren’t very popular to watch, especially amongst young people. I believe the Games provide opportunities to learn about different sports, cultures, and overcoming adversity, but most importantly, they show us that people of different nationalities can come together and enjoy themselves. These are the reasons why I love the Olympic Games.

The Importance of Competition”

This speech talks encompasses how I came to realize that I was a competitive person and the benefits of being competitive. As an athlete, I began swimming at a very young age and therefore have been exposed to a competitive spirit for many years but have only now begun to apprehend my subtlety competitive nature. As I began to participate in other sports that I had no experience in, like skiing, I used this competitive spirit and still made the varsity ski team. This spirit lies in my sports, schoolwork, and even a little bit within my family. Competition is not about having the title of “the best” or even making varsity, but having fun and working hard to achieve something great.

World Language”

Movies effect society more than one could ever imagine. Throughout the years, movies have been used as propaganda to promote certain ideals. American cinema has not properly represented Japan, and it is my hope to change this image. My dream is to become a film director. I was inspired to study filmmaking because I saw an opportunity to change the world. Filmmaking is a powerful tool that I can use to create positive messages and show the world Japan’s achievements. I wish to create a strong bond between Japan and America, eventually connecting the entire world through film.

The Importance of Band”

Band has had a very positive impact on my life and my future, if I wasn’t in Band, school would cease to be fun. In band, we practice every day, which helps, in around about way, with my math. In both Math and Music, we use patterns, which has heightened my ability with Math at a very high rate. We also have a lot of fun things we do over the course of Band. For example, our Band gang signs. Those are to help us remember the decrescendos and crescendos, and the accents. So they are really important Music signs to us.

Cat”

My speech is about cats and how they touched the hearts of many Japanese people for such a long time. I want to share some interesting facts and reasons why Japanese people adore cats and how cats move their hearts. I want you to know how meaningful cats truly are to Japanese people and how you can approach and learn about Japanese culture through cats.
