As the eldest son
of Ken Uehara and Yoko Kozakura, Japan's popular film stars,
Yuzo Kayama debuted as a film actor in 1960 with his appearance
in the film, "Man versus Man". Yuzo is known as one
of Japan's most popular actors, and has appeared in films such
as "Sanjuro" and "Red Beard" which were directed
by Akira Kurosawa. Yuzo has appeared more than 70 films to date.
He is most well known for the popular film series, "Young
Guy" (Wakadaisho).
Yuzo debuted as a singer in 1961 with the song, "Yoru no
Taiyo" (The Sun of the Night). He wrote many hit songs under
the name of Dan Kohsaku. In 1965 he had a big hit with the three-million
selling song, "Kimito Itsumademo" (Always with You)
which won a special award from Nihon Record Taisho (Japan's Grammy
awards). Since that time, he has released more than 35 albums
and over 50 singles.
Kayama performs live concerts regularly every year. In January
of 2000, Yuzo performed a concert, "NTT Yuzo Kayama &
Hyper Launchers Live Concert". The performance was broadcast
to the world over the internet. His 40th anniversary was commemorated
with a nationwide live concert tour, "Young Captain 2000"
which began in April, 2000.
In 2001, Yuzo performed at the "Masashi Sada Nagasaki Peace
Concert". He was the presenter of the "Yusawa Field
Music Fair", held at the Kayama Captain Coast Ski Resort.
Yuzo appeared for his 16th time on the legendary TV program,
"The year-end men versus women singing contest sponsored
and broadcast by the NHK". |

Yuzo has not only been active in music performance and acting
- but he is also a painter. Kayama has had private exhibitions
in Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Department store in Tokyo for 6 consecutive
years starting in 1996. His oil paintings and watercolor paintings
are highly esteemed. In 1998, the "Yuzo Kayama Museum"
opened in Nishiizu.
Yuzo has won a variety of awards for his art and his charitable
activities, such as "Citizens of Tokyo Cultural Award"
from the city of Tokyo, and "The Charter of Our Ocean"
from Japan UNESCO. His artistic skills are expanding, and he
is always challenged with the new techniques. |
The benefit concert celebrates
Mr. Kayama's first concert in Los Angeles and is a charitable
fundraising event for the Japanese Language Scholarship "AURORA"
Foundation. The primary goal of the foundation is to nurture
and provide support for Japanese language teachers and students
of Japanese language education in the USA.
