Scholarship Winners

Los Angeles - August 30, 2000 - The Japanese Language Scholarship
gAurorah Foundation is pleased to announce their
second scholarship winners, Ms. Tracy Ann Pollard and Mr. James
J. Buoye.
The primary goal of the foundation is to nurture and provide
support for Japanese language teachers and students of Japanese
language education in the USA. The scholarships will enable the
awardees to experience a 2-3 month stay in Japan in 2001 and
give them the opportunity to attend an intensive Japanese Language
Teacher educational program.
Tracy Ann Pollard, from Boulder Colorado, has participated in
the JET program for two years visiting Japan (1993-1995). She
also worked as coordinator for international relations at the
Office of the Mayor, Takasaki-shi, Japan (1995~1996). She is
currently pursuing her M.A, Japanese Language and Pedagogy and
her Teacher Certification program, and plans to complete by spring
2002 at University of Colorado at Boulder. Even though she is
still a student, she will be a good leader and she is committed
to teaching Japanese language in the future.
James J. Buoye, from Dumont New Jersey, is currently a Japanese
Language Instructor at the Northern Valley Regional High School.
He received his M.A. (Asian Studies; Japanese Specialization)
from University of Michigan (1990). He is devoted to increasing
students and community awareness of Japanese culture. His dedication
to protecting and expanding Japanese language and culture are
of high value.
The scholarship includes a trip to Los Angeles, so Tracy and
James will attend the award ceremony tentatively planned to be
held on Sat. December 2, 2000. The detailed information about
the ceremony will be announced in the near future.
